Brant Beach Bulletin – September 12th, 2025

Brant Beach Bulletin
September 12th, 2025

The BBTA Fall Membership Meeting will be held in the courtroom at 10am on Saturday, September 20 with Commissioner Meehan as our guest speaker. We hope to see you there!

This issue covers the perks that come with Locals Summer, as well as new ordinances on youth curfews and unattended beach equipment.

Dogs will be allowed on the beach starting October 1.

Traffic lights will be blinking in early to mid-October. Because the Boulevard is a County road, the County reprograms the lights, and they have not announced a specific date.

Higher speed limits on the Boulevard are also County-controlled and are generally posted in early to mid-October.

Trash and recycling is now once a week. In Brant Beach, trash pickup is on Mondays and recycling pickup is on Fridays, as per the calendar.

Hurricane Erin impacted our beaches. Currently, all Federal funding for beach replenishment has been eliminated. BBTA will keep you updated on the efforts of our representatives in Washington.

Property taxes are due on September 15. To check whether your payment was credited, click here and enter your last name. Water bills were due on Sept 1.

Disaster re-entry passes for 2026-2031 were mailed to all residents. If you did not receive yours, contact the Township at nandreotta@lbtpd.org or 609-361-2060.

GovDeals Periodically, the Township sells surplus property on this website. While no specific Township items have appeared on that website yet, you may browse here.

COMMISSIONERS’ MEETING

Representatives from the Brant Beach Taxpayers Association including Pete Potochney, Mike Fahner, Rusty Johnson, Donn O’Brien, Joe Pahlow, and Ben Tonti attended the September 8 Long Beach Township Commissioners’ Meeting.

Ordinances

Proposed on First Reading. First reading ordinances are available by visiting, emailing or telephoning the Township. Residents may voice opinions about proposed ordinances at the next Commissioners Meeting at 4pm on October 6.

25-14C: Creates a new chapter in the Township Code for state-mandated regulations regarding the removal and replacement of trees by property owners.

25-15C: Creates a new chapter in the Township Code for state-mandated regulations regarding stormwater quality.

25-16C: Amends regulations covering hotels and motels by expanding the maximum area of impervious ground cover to 75% and reducing the required setbacks.

25-17C: Clarifies that pools are allowed on the roofs of commercial properties, specifically hotels and motels.  Rooftop pools on residential properties remain prohibited.

The mayor explained that these two proposed ordinances are part of an effort to encourage businesses to remain on the island. Allowing hotels and motels to offer amenities such as a pool and increased parking incentivizes business owners to build/rebuild here.

25-18C: After the Planning Board approves a site plan, the applicant will have two years rather than six months to begin construction, bringing Township regulations in line with State regulations.

Passed on Second Reading At second readings, the floor is open for public comments.  When that exchange concludes, the commissioners and mayor vote to accept or reject the ordinance.

25-13C: Under the heading “peace and good order,” this ordinance lowers the Township curfew for those age 17 and younger to 10pm on the streets and 9pm on the beaches, with exceptions for employment, emergencies, etc.

This ordinance also prohibits setting up unattended beach equipment such as chairs and umbrellas before 9am. You may use the beach before 9am, provided you remain with your belongings. This allows the Township to rake the beaches and remove trash.
