❖ Beach Replenishment on LBI: Three bidders are expected to respond to the request for proposals going out May 8. Once all the bids are in, it should take two to four weeks for contract award and for determination of the replenishment schedule.
❖ Causeway Construction: The target date for the last workday remains May 17. After that, the crews break for the summer and return after Labor Day. The mayor optimistically said work should be done by May 15.
❖ Dogs On The Beach: May 15 (not May 12, as printed in the Township calendar) is the last day you may legally bring your dog to any beach in Long Beach Township, except for guide or service dogs. Your canine buddy may once again enjoy the sand and surf beginning October 1.
❖ Dogs On The Beach: May 15 (not May 12, as printed in the Township calendar) is the last day you may legally bring your dog to any beach in Long Beach Township, except for guide or service dogs. Your canine buddy may once again enjoy the sand and surf beginning October 1.
❖ EMT Success: Commissioner Lattanzi was delighted to announce that eight new emergency medical technicians will be joining the Beach Haven Volunteer First Aid Squad this summer:
- As you may recall, LBT and this Beach Haven medical emergency response organization united in a joint effort last year to recruit and manage the training and certification of new volunteers.
- The results of the first-year efforts were not as productive as everyone had hoped because training and testing took longer than expected. Now, however, going into its second year, the program is doing well and Commissioner Lattanzi is cautiously optimistic.
❖ Lifeguards on LBT Beaches: Commissioner Lattanzi happily announced that the Township received forty more applications for lifeguards this year vs. last year and the hiring process is in full swing.
- The Township implemented a bonus program for this season that offers financial incentives for lifeguards to stay and work in their jobs during important weeks in August, historically the month in which the number of lifeguards available to work declines dramatically. Commissioner Lattanzi is optimistic that having this incentive program in place will allow more beaches to be staffed with lifeguards through Labor Day.
❖ Long Beach Township 125th Anniversary Celebration: Come join the festivities on Saturday May 25 from 5 – 9 pm in Bayview Park. Live music, face painting, a photo booth, bounce houses and, of course, food and beverages are planned. Fireworks, provided by Fantasy Island Amusement Park, begin at 9 pm
❖ LBT Logo: Over 310 designs were submitted for the new LBT logo and 300 of those designs came from children. The finalists – six designs in all, all from young people – have been passed along to a professional artist for a little bit of clean-up tweaking.
- The #1 pick, which will become the new official Township logo, will be revealed at the 125th Year Anniversary Celebration Saturday, May 25th in Bayview Park.
❖ Townwide Yard Sale: Saturday May 25 (rain date Sunday May 26) from 8 am – 9 pm is the first township-wide garage sale of the summer. A list of participating homes will be posted on the LBT website by Thursday May 23.
- If you wish to participate, fill out an application by going to the LBT website and downloading the form at Townwide yard sale
- Mail the completed form with a check for the $10 application fee with a self addressed stamped envelope to Long Beach Township Municipal Building, attn. Events, 6805 Long Beach Blvd, Brant Beach NJ 08008.
❖ Shuttle Buses: Children under 12 years old ride free with an adult; a one-way trip for everyone else is $5. The buses will be running on Memorial Day weekend (Friday 4 pm – 12 am; Saturday & Sunday 3 pm – 12 am; Monday 3 – 9 pm) and then weekends until June 23 on the same Friday – Sunday schedule.
- Beginning Monday June 24 through Labor Day September 2, look for the buses Monday – Thursday 3 – 10 pm, Friday 3 – 11 pm; Saturday & Sunday 3 pm – 12 am.
- More information and the link to the shuttle bus tracker can be found on the LBT website LBI Shuttle Tracker
❖ Traffic Signals & Speed Limits: Typically, traffic signals are turned back on the Monday before Memorial Day (May 20 this year) with speed limits lowered four or five days before that, which would be around May 15-ish.
- However, the key word is “typically” since the schedule is dependent on Ocean County work crews since the County maintains the Blvd.
❖ Trash & Recycling Pick-Up Schedule: Beginning Monday, May 6, trash and recyclables will be picked up following the summer schedule through Friday September 6.
Ordinances
❖ Proposed On First Reading: First reading ordinances are not available for inspection on the LBT website while the re-design of that site is still in progress. Links to all the first ordinances are provided in the newsletter to which this summary is attached.
- 24-13C On March 4, 2024, Ordinance 24-06C was passed on second reading. That ordinance amended some requirements regarding applying for a business license.

❖ Passed On Second Reading:
- 24-10C Clarifies regulations regarding the maintenance and repair of water mains and related pipes and fixtures on private easements and states conditions that must be met by a developer who wishes to build a major subdivision on a private easement in order for the Township to be responsible for the maintenance of the water main.
