Brant Beach Bulletin
June 3rd, 2026
This issue covers the upcoming BBTA Members Meeting, many start-of-summer announcements, and the monthly Commissioners’ Meeting.
❖ See You Saturday: All BBTA members are invited to our Spring meeting at 10am Saturday, June 6 in the Municipal Building. Guest speakers will be Chief of Police Ed Bernhard and Superintendent of Water and Sewer Mike Clark.
❖ Lifeguards: will be on duty starting Saturday, June 20. The list of guarded beaches will be updated daily by 11am here (but it’s not posted quite yet.)
❖ Beach badges will be required starting Saturday, June 20. Preseason prices are $40 through Monday, June 15. Full info is at lbtbp.com/beach-badges.
❖ The new lifesaving drone is on duty and housed right here in Brant Beach. Equipped with life-saving gear, it can be dispatched within seconds to drop a flotation device to a distressed swimmer. It will also be used to issue traffic tickets by relaying a license plate number to a police vehicle ahead.
❖ The beaches are being groomed daily and Township bulldozers are working to smooth the ramps. However, there is no Federal funding for major beach replenishment on LBI.
❖ The LBI Shuttle will run on weekends through June 21. The schedule is Friday 4pm-midnight, Saturday 3pm-midnight, and Sunday 3pm-9pm. The one-way cost is $5 exact fare, or $125 for a season pass. Children 12 and under ride free with an adult.
❖ Boulevard paving in Brant Beach is complete but some areas south of us will see work until June 15.
❖ Alternate side of street parking started on June 1 on most oceanside streets.
❖ Last month’s plea from duplex owners for more fairness in water and sewer rates was heard. The mayor announced that the billing formula will be changed in 2027 and will be based primarily on a home’s total water usage rather than whether it is a single family or duplex.
❖ Fire Companies: Commissioner Joe Lattanzi continues his efforts to keep our fire services volunteer-run rather than instituting paid fire services, which would greatly increase our taxes. A similar initiative to support our volunteer first aid services was very successful.
❖ The owner of the abandoned sailboat anchored in the bay off Brant Beach has been directed by the court to remove it immediately. The Township is working to enforce the court order.
❖ The current Island Surf and Sail in Brant Beach on 32nd Street and the Boulevard received approval from the Land Use Board to become a cardio boxing gym. The owner also operates the RIOT Boxing Club in Tuckerton.
❖ Adopt your beach path: Fifteen of our 44 streets still need volunteers: 33rd, 35th, 41st through 50th, 58th and 60th. Please email adoptabeachpathbbta@gmail.com.
❖ World Cup Watch Party is set for Friday, June 19 from 1-5pm at the 68th Street ocean beach featuring USA vs Australia on the big screen at 3pm, with a DJ, food, beer, games, and more.
❖ Townwide Yard Sale dates are Saturday, May 23 (rain date May 24) and Saturday, July 4 (rain date July 5). Permits are $10 at Garage-Sale-Application-Fillable.pdf.
COMMISSIONERS’ MEETING
Representatives from the Brant Beach Taxpayers Association including Pete Potochney, Janis Metz, Donn O’Brien, Rusty Johnson, and Ben Tonti attended the June 1 Long Beach Township Commissioners’ Meeting. All Township owners and residents are welcome to speak at the monthly Commissioners’ Meeting, which is held at 4pm on the first Monday of the month at the Municipal Building.
Several homeowners from West Rhode Island Avenue (82nd Street) asked for relief from the eyesore at the former K2 restaurant site caused by the storage of heavy equipment and the lack of usable sidewalks. The mayor replied that solid white fencing would be installed when the County paving project ends, and the sidewalk would be improved.
Ordinances
❖ Proposed on First Reading. None.
❖ Passed on Second Reading At second readings, the floor is open for public comments. When that exchange concludes, the commissioners and mayor vote to accept or reject the ordinance. Full ordinances are here.
26-10C: For existing houses on an undersized or nonconforming lot, demolition and rebuilding will not require a variance if the new home meets zoning requirements. However, renovations and additions will require a variance. Also revises site plan requirements based on the extent of planned alteration and construction, and defines when a change of use requires a new site plan.
Note on last month’s 26-07, Holgate is the planned location of the Township’s new water treatment and well building for which a bond was issued last month.
