Brant Beach Bulletin – December 20th, 2025

Brant Beach Bulletin
December 20th, 2025

This issue covers our new lifesaving drone, the proposed NJ REAL rules and the year-end Township Commissioners’ Public Meeting.

Don’t Plow Me In! Snowplow drivers have been instructed to look for homes with porch lights on and avoid blocking the driveway with snow when plowing the roads. Public Works Commissioner Allie Meehan chuckled that leaving your outside lights on during a snowstorm is not a guarantee, but it’s worth a try.

Lifesaving Drone: The Township has signed a five-year contract for a specialized drone which can be dispatched to drop up to two PFDs (life vests) to a struggling swimmer in the water, providing much faster emergency response in the offseason and when the beach lifeguards are not on duty. The drone, an Axon Skydio, will be housed at the 68th Street Municipal Complex.

The NJ REAL (Resilient Environments And Landscapes) rules proposed by the NJ DEP will affect land use and building regulations in our area, including a 4-foot increase in the required elevation of new homes. The Joint Council of Taxpayers Associations of Long Beach Island (JCTA) has prepared this FAQ that is posted on the BBTA website.

Lives on the Lines: Life-Saving Tales from Long Beach Island  On Saturday, January 17, join Barnegat Light Museum Curator Reilly Sharp as he chronicles 170 years of bravery and tragedy of our Island Lifesavers and Coast Guardsmen. The stories and images of those who battled the dangers of the sea to save those in peril will testify to their sacrifice and enduring legacy in our Island community.
