This issue covers life, death and taxes.
❖ Property Taxes are technically due on August 1, but the bills haven’t gone out yet. The due date will be extended until Monday, August 24. You can see your tax bill and the new tax rates here – just type in your last name. A house assessed at $1M will owe $9,970 in property taxes.
❖ Housing density was discussed at the July 8 Land Use Board meeting. The 2017 Master Zoning Plan intended to preserve stores and restaurants in our commercial zones by encouraging mixed-use buildings, with food or retail on the first floor and apartments above for workers. But the Board has noted a worrisome trend to squeeze large homes into commercial zones by including a small food or retail space underneath. The Land Use Board recently denied an application for this reason.
❖ The live drone show is now rescheduled to 9:30pm on Friday, July 17 in Bayview Park.
❖ The new NJ E-bike law takes effect on July 19. No one under 15 may ride an e-bike. All e-bikes must be registered, and all riders must be licensed. Class 2 and 3 e-bikes also require insurance. More info is here.
❖ To honor the late BBTA President John Fiore, the BBTA sponsored a memorial bench at Bayview Park and the BBTA’s twelve trustees personally contributed to the Ship Bottom Volunteer Fire Company and Beach Haven First Aid Squad in memory of John.

WORTHY CAUSES
❖ Celebrate the Art of Lifeguarding on Saturday, July 11 to benefit the LBIF, with live music by the Danksters.
❖ Support Type 1 Diabetes research through The LBI House Tour on Wednesday, July 15, hosted by Brant Beach residents Monica and Patrick Moeller.
❖ Support the LBI Foundation of the Arts and Sciences by touring six noteworthy LBI homes through the 60th annual Seashore House Tour, Wednesday, Aug 5th. Purchase tickets at the Foundation or online at www.lbifoundation.org.
❖ Tour LBI artists’ studios on August 8 and 9 to benefit LBIartists.com.
COMMISSIONERS’ MEETING
Representatives from the Brant Beach Taxpayers Association including Pete Potochney, Mike Fahner, Donn O’Brien, and Ben Tonti attended the July 6 Long Beach Township Commissioners’ Meeting. All Township owners and residents are welcome to speak at the monthly Commissioners’ Meeting, which is held at 4pm on the first Monday of the month at the Municipal Building.
The Commissioners responded to a letter in the July 1 Sandpaper entitled “Fiscal Sanity Needed” and urging consolidation of LBI’s six municipalities, by noting that Long Beach Township has the lowest municipal tax rate on the island, and a rate much lower than most year-round townships in New Jersey.
Commissioner Lattanzi continues his efforts to coordinate our volunteer fire services to reduce redundancy and alleviate their fundraising burden, modeling the success with the volunteer EMS services. The goal is to avoid instituting paid services, which would increase our taxes significantly.
In response to a proposed petition to allow golf carts on the north end of the island, Mayor Mancini stated that this will not be considered because it would pose a threat to public safety due to greatly increased vehicle traffic throughout the township. A Loveladies resident spoke highly of the LBI Shuttle Service and suggested additional buses, but the Commissioners responded that the price of new buses has doubled since the program’s inception.
Ben Tonti of Brant Beach complimented Public Works for promptly replacing a broken oceanfront bench.
A Brant Beach resident reported that construction debris from a new house going up next door was blowing into her yard, and displayed a bag of trash she had collected. The mayor promised to send an inspector out promptly.
The juvenile curfew was discussed. Residents who are concerned about large underage groups congregating past 10pm should call the police nonemergency number at 609-494-3322.

❖ Proposed on First Reading.
26-11C: This ordinance would create a No-Knock Registry for use by homeowners to discourage solicitors. It would establish solicitors’ permit requirements, fees and penalties. Charitable organizations would need a permit, but without a fee. The ordinance is designed to regulate solicitors while respecting First Amendment speech rights.
❖ Passed on Second Reading At second readings, the floor is open for public comments. When that exchange concludes, the commissioners and mayor vote to accept or reject the ordinance.
