Brant Beach Bulletin – April 10th, 2026

Brant Beach Bulletin
April 10th, 2026

This issue covers many topics including the BBTA Winter Speaker Series, the Friday and Sunday summer band line-up, and an unusually large number of new Township ordinances.

Boating with Safety and Confidence: If you are like many boaters, the navigation and safety details you learned in your Boating Safety certification course may have escaped your memory. Is it red-right-return when you’re heading toward Barnegat Light or toward Holgate? Can our 14-year-old houseguest borrow the jet ski? Even if you’re not a boater, your kids or grandkids may be out on the water with friends, and it is prudent to know what is safe.

We will review the rules of the road and discuss the most common mistakes and misconceptions, with the goal of keeping you and your family safe on the water this summer. Our speaker is Captain Ed Boyle, a US Certified Coast Guard Captain for Hire, who provides boating and fishing instruction.

BBTA and BBYC members are invited to join us at 10am on Saturday, April 11th at the Brant Beach Yacht Club Sailing Center at 6106 Bayview Avenue.

The first thirty minutes will feature refreshments and socializing with your neighbors, followed by an all-new one-hour presentation.

This free event is open only to BBTA and BBYC members. No registration is required. Families are welcome.

Please Become an Adopt-a-Beach Path Volunteer in Brant Beach  Each volunteer works to keep the beach ramp on their own street clear of litter and reports any safety or maintenance issues. Our goal is to have at least one volunteer per street from 31st to 73rd Street. Yes, this can be documented as community service hours for students. Email info@BrantBeachTA.org.

LBT Parks & Recreation: Check out the band lineup for Firepit Fridays and Sunday afternoon concerts. We also look forward to an awe-inspiring hot air balloon event in Bayview Park at 68th Street for Mothers’ Day, a splashy 10K World Cup Watch Party in June and a lively PizzaFest in September.

Beach Haven Fire Department’s Craft Beer and Food Truck Festival will be held on May 2 from 1-6 at Veteran’s Memorial Park. This fundraiser will feature live music and craft vendors.

Volunteer for a Beach Clean-Up: The Alliance for a Living Ocean (ALO) Clean Up will be held from 9 – 12:30 on Saturday, April 18 (rain date April 25). Meet at Wally’s in Surf City. ALO will supply buckets and gloves. The Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweep from 9 – 12:30 on Saturday, April 11 also meets at Wally’s.

Lifeguards: Recruiting is in full swing for lifeguards to staff the beaches throughout the Township this season. So far, 94% of the needed 205 lifeguards have been hired and the process is on-going.

Roadwork on the Boulevard: Ocean County is responsible for the Boulevard, and crews are working at a number of locations. Township crews are working in the Spray Beach section to replace antiquated water and sewer mains. The goal is to finish all work before Memorial Day.

The Beach Badge Shack is open. Seasonal badges are $40 until June 15, and $50 thereafter. Use the pre-order form if you won’t be down in time.

Would you like to include another member of your household in your BBTA membership? They will receive our monthly bulletin via email. There is no additional cost. To add a family member, contact us at info@BrantBeachTA.org and include their name, email address, and (optionally) home address and telephone.

COMMISSIONERS’ MEETING

Representatives from the Brant Beach Taxpayers Association including Pete Potochney, Mike Fahner, Rusty Johnson, Janis Metz, Donn O’Brien, and Ben Tonti attended the April 6 Long Beach Township Commissioners’ Meeting.

All Township owners and residents are welcome to speak at the monthly Commissioners’ Meeting, which is held at 4pm on the first Monday of the month at the Municipal Building.

Ordinances

Proposed on First Reading.

To obtain the full text of a proposed ordinance, phone 609-361-6691 or email clerk@longbeachtownship.com and/or dlavalle@longbeachtownship.com. To comment publicly on a proposed ordinance, attend the next Commissioners’ Meeting.

26-03C: This 14-page proposed ordinance covers three topics: block parties, film production permits, and rental requirements for five Township properties, specifically Bayview Park South Pavilion, 68th Street Ocean Pavilion, Municipal Court Multipurpose Room, Holgate Pavilion, and Long Beach Township Field Station Holgate.

26-04: To meet State requirements, this proposed ordinance states that Long Beach Township is in compliance with the Uniform Housing Affordability Controls, specifically that 20% of certain proposed development is set aside for affordable housing (also referred to as the Fair Housing Act and the Mt. Laurel Doctrine).

26-05C: To meet State requirements, this proposed ordinance creates an overlay zone in two specific tracts to accommodate affordable housing in our township. The two tracts are 13th to 30th Street in the Beach Haven Gardens section, and 37th to 45th Street in the Brant Beach section. Within these zones, multi-family housing is permitted up to 20 units per acre, and all uses are permitted within the general commercial zone for mixed-use on the ground floor and residential units on the upper floors. Existing restrictions such as maximum building height will apply.

26-06C: To meet State requirements, this proposed ordinance establishes an affordable housing trust fund financed by new fees for developing residential and non-residential properties. Developers will pay up to 6% into a fund that will subsidize affordable housing. Developers who build affordable housing units in the designated areas can receive subsidies from this fund.

26-07: The Township previously authorized a $3,500,000 bond to build a new water treatment and well building. Due to increasing costs, this ordinance would authorize an additional $3,500,000 bond. More details will follow.

26-08: Authorizes a $7,000,000 bond for new water mains in the North Beach section of the township.

26-09: Confirms that LBT capital reserve funds were used by LBT to purchase the property at 3 W. Marshall Ave in Holgate (Block 1.86 Lot 4) for a public purpose. This is a residential lot one off the Boulevard, near the Sea Spray Motel, assessed at $934,700. More details will follow.

Passed on Second Reading None.

None, because there were no proposed ordinances last month.
