This issue covers many topics including the BBTA Winter Speaker Series and the Township Commissioners’ Public Meeting.

Lives on the Lines: Life-Saving Tales from Long Beach Island On Saturday, January 17, join Barnegat Light Museum Curator Reilly Sharp as he chronicles 170 years of bravery and tragedy of our Island Lifesavers and Coast Guardsmen. The stories and images of those who battled the dangers of the sea to save those in peril will testify to their sacrifice and enduring legacy in our Island community.

This is the third of six BBTA talks in our Winter Series. They are held at 10am on Saturday mornings at the Brant Beach Yacht Club Sailing Center at 6106 Bayview Avenue. The first thirty minutes feature refreshments and socializing with your neighbors, followed by a one-hour presentation. This free event is open only to BBTA and BBYC members. No registration is required. Families are welcome.

Watch “The Oyster Farmers”, a one-hour documentary produced by Angela Andersen of the Long Beach Township Field Station, to feed your longings for summer at the shore.

Farewell to La Bamba, one of our Brant Beach restaurants. They have announced that they are permanently closed. The future of the property is unknown. The owners plan to retain their Beach Haven location.

Project InVOLve will be held at the Surf City library on January 19. Local non-profit organizations will be at the library to share information, answer your questions, and discuss ways you can get involved through volunteering.

Townwide Yard Sale dates are Saturday, May 23 (rain date May 24) and Saturday, July 4 (rain date July 5). Permits are $10 at Garage-Sale-Application-Fillable.pdf.

Registration for the Philadelphia Flower Show trip hosted by the Township Recreation Department on March 4 is available here.

The Township Municipal Building is closed on Monday, January 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

COMMISSIONERS’ MEETING

Representatives from the Brant Beach Taxpayers Association including Pete Potochney, Rusty Johnson and Ben Tonti attended the January 5 Long Beach Township Commissioners’ Meeting.

All Township owners and residents are welcome to speak at the monthly Commissioners’ Meeting, which is held at 4pm on the first Monday of the month.

Ordinances

Proposed on First Reading.

26-01: “An Ordinance Fixing and Determining the Annual Salaries, Designating Holidays and Providing for Overtime Compensation of Certain Officers and Employees of the Township of Long Beach, County of Ocean, New Jersey.” This is the 2026 version of this annually required ordinance. The full text will be posted here in early February.
